The New Jersey Chapter
of the
Hudson River

Fishermen's Association

The Hudson River Fishermen's Association is a group of recreational fishermen who make active use of the N.Y. Bight and the surrounding water system and are concerned with the present and future state of these fisheries.
Our objectives are to encourage the responsible use of aquatic resources and protection of habitat. We assist where possible in efforts to abate pollution and promote sportfishing and the management of that recreation.

Bunker Boats
Did you know that out of state boats were coming in to the jersey inshore waters and netting all the baitfish.  If allowed to continue, they will wipe out all the bait and thus...give no reason for the sportfish to come around.
There is a bill in Trenton that would stop this practice and force these out of state boats to catch their menhaden further off shore.
AND ALL THE LETTERS WE SENT HAVE HAD AN EFFECT!!!!!
The Bill has passed by the committee by a vote of 5 to 2.
Thanks to everyone who took the time to submit a letter.
******** Update December 2001 ********
The Menhaden Bill has passed the NJ senate by a vote of 24-8 in our favor.
Now we just have to make sure the governor does not veto the bill.

PCB Dredging:
A historic decision has been made regarding the Hudson River.
On 8/1/01...Federal EPA Administer Christie Whitman made a statement that she is endorsing the EPA's Record of Decision that the PCBs should be removed from the Hudson River.
She is supporting the FULL CLEANUP!!
This is a great victory for the HRFA!  We have been waging this war for the past 10 years.
A message has been sent to General Electric and to other polluters.
"You will be held accountable if you damage our rivers."
Update December 2001
The latest word on the PCB issue is that again, the EPA has issued a ROD
Record of Decision) that GE must clean up the PCBs.  If they do not, the
EPA will have it done and charge GE Triple the cost.
We are all happy for this latest statement by the EPA but are waiting to see
the actual wording of that ROD.
No one on either side of this issue has seen the actual ROD.  We are all
interested in how it is worded.
